The MYBC Goes GreenThe Massachusetts YouthBuild Coalition is committed to sustainable and environmentally friendly building. Take a look at some of the projects our programs around the state have been working on:
TRA YouthBuild Quincy has partnered with the Quincy Housing Authority to renovate over 170 low-income housing units owned by QHA in the Riverview section of Germantown. They have helped replace roofs, insulation, siding, doors and windows, making the units energy efficient in accordance with HUD/ QHA energy compliance standards. YouthBuild Lawrence is about to begin construction on 2 energy efficient houses. In the past, YB Lawrence has participated in a Green Jobs round-table and partnered on a community service project with MIT. TRA YouthBuild Worcester is one of four national recipients of a 3 year, $100,000 pass-through grant from YB USA to partner with Saint-Gobain in promoting green building techniques and construction of energy efficient affordable housing. Check out the YB Worcester/ Saint-Gobain partnership website. YouthBuild Just-A-Start is integrating weatherization and energy efficiency training into their HBI Pre-Apprenticeship Certificate Training curriculum in construction. A WalMart Green Fellows grant enabled YBJAS to purchase an insulation blower and other weatherization tools. The current construction project is the rehabilitation of a single-family home to Energy Star standards. |
