YouthBuild Boston's 10th Annual Housewarming
December 10, 2010- For the 10th Anniversary of YouthBuild Boston's Housewarming Event, YB Boston staff and partnering organizations decided to vastly increase the scope of the project. Outside of over 40 homes in Roxbury, Dorchester, and Mattapan being winterized with window insulating plastic (provided by the City of Boston), windows (provided by Diamond Windows) were replaced in five residences. Teams from PACE, Inc. YouthBuild New Bedford and CTI YouthBuild Lowell performed weatherization work on a transitional shelter owned by Children's Services of Roxbury. Old Colony YMCA YouthBuild Fall River Staff installed "advanced energy panels" (soon to be manufactued on site at YB Fall River) at La Alianza Hispana and volunteers from Training Resources of America, Inc. YouthBuild Quincy and Just-A-Start YouthBuild Cambridge/ Chelsea shored up Coalition involvement. Volunteers from a host of other organizations were involved including Bank of America, the Fuller Center for Housing, LIUNA, New England Regional Council of Carpenters, Roxbury Community College, and the Partnership for Greening Blue Hill Ave. By the end of the day, Housewarming had accomplished its objective of providing safer, warmer housing for communities and residents in need. At the same time, YouthBuild Boston looked to stretch the impact of a decade-old community event well into the future.
