                                  Youth Summit

April 1, 2011- MYBC students from across the state gathered at the Brockton Boys & Girls Club Teen Center to advocate for YouthBuild, social service, and job training funding currently in jeopardy in federal budget negotiations. McKaila Coulter, a YB New Bedford student, took the initiative to organize the event, and MYBC programs from Boston, Brockton, Cambridge/ Chelsea, Fall River, Lowell, New Bedford, Quincy, and Worcester were represented. Highlights included dance, spoken word, and singing performances, as well as students telling their always powerful stories. Action plans for contacting federal Representatives and Senators and organizing at the local level were developed. Special thanks to Ms. Coulter, Maren Reisch (MYBC Mentoring Coordinator), and Shavon Tolson (YB Brockton Mentoring Coordinator) for organizing the event and to the Brockton Boys & Girls Club for accomodating an energetic and driven group of community leaders (including Brockton Mayor Linda M. Balzotti).
